Exploring Arizona

Dolan has hiked Arizona's deserts and mountains and its deepest canyons (including the beautiful Havasupai Canyon, which was the inspiration for his song, "Nature's Children").  He once held a pilot's license, and spent many hours in smal planes, either as the pilot or as a passenger.  He has traveled by horseback to some of the most remote points of the state.  He has explored caves, and wrote a song titled "Underground Music," in appreciation of that experience.

Dolan is best known for his exploration in 4-wheel drive vehicles, certainly one of his strongest "brands" as Balladeer.  He owned 13 CJ-7 Jeeps and still has a 1985 model.  Around 1990, he stopped counting miles, which by that time had reached the 1,000,000 mark.

Dolan has commemorated the CJ-7s in a song, "Therapeutic 4-Wheel Drive."
