Dolan has been using this personalized
license plate for years. He was the primary spokesman for the Arizona Office
of Tourism's "Do AZ, I Do" campaign. |
In his 41 years as Arizona's Official Balladeer,
and for the years prior to that when he was writing and singing Arizona songs
(which earned him the title in 1966), Dolan Ellis has probably done more than
any other person to promote Arizona tourism.
Often when Dolan appears at the Arizona Folklore
Preserve and other locations around the state, he will ask whether there are
any visitors from out of state. Invariably, there are. And it's almost a sure
bet that after the show is over, one or two of those visitors will come up
to Dolan and tell him they learned more about Arizona from his 90-minute show
than they had learned in a week of touring the state.
Dolan's large-screen photography especially,
which he always uses at Arizona Folklore Preserve and often uses
at other venues, turn his shows into Arizona travelogues.
He teaches his audiences about climate, geography,
birds and wildlife, waterways, canyons, deserts, mountains. He covers interesting
history and colorful characters.
Through it all, Dolan's love for his adopted
state is obvious to everyone.
Which explains why he was inducted into the
Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame!
